Trusted Devices

In a fit of vague security-conciousness I thought that, since our old iMac is no longer going to be in regular use, I perhaps ought to remove it from the list of trusted devices on my iCloud account.

I've signed in at appleid.apple.com and can see all the devices logged into my iCloud account but, contrary to what I found on Apple's support pages, can't see any list of which devices are trusted. Clicking on the 'learn more' link beside Two Factor Authentication brings up a help page which says "A trusted device is an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 9 and later, or a Mac with OS X El Capitan and later that you've already signed in to using two-factor authentication."

So it looks like all properly signed in Apple devices (except my old MacBook running Montain Lion/Snow Leopard) are trusted whether I like it or not. Is this right?

The relevant part is "that you've already signed in to". I take that to mean if you haven't signed in using two factor from your old iMac then it won't be a trusted device till you do.

That’s my reading too, but I still have an active (signed in) user account on the old iMac so it’s still listed as a trusted device. I don’t think it really matters but I just wanted to make sure that, when signing in with a new device sometime in the future, the magic code doesn’t get sent to this old iMac when it’s slumbering away upstairs.

There's a difference between devices signed in to your account and devices which have used two factor authentication and become trusted. You say the old iMac is the former but you can't see a list of trusted devices so how do you know " it’s still listed as a trusted device."?

I've had two factor authentication enabled for some time so the old iMac is indeed signed in via two factor authentication. I seem to recall at the time I was then asked whether to trust this device and said yes. It seems that now, as you say, any device signed in with two factor authentication is automatically trusted. Maybe it's always been like this?

Yes, always been like this for TFA

It's probably not very helpful to say that it's the same for me!

I presume you're reading the support page here, I have sent a comment on the page that it seems to be incorrect. It will be interesting to see if anything changes.
