Little Snitch up to the most recent nightly build was causing excessive delays during the boot process - typically before the main OS got started ie before the progress line is drawn on the screen.
So go to the Little Snitch website - check out the forum and then download the latest nightly build and install it. All Little Snitch updates requre a reboot and you should find the boot process is much faster.
