I for one will be boycotting the show as it is now just a general "creative" show and will have both Mac & PC. This in my opinion will lead to the death of the Mac part! I will also vote against contributing to the running of the UKMUGs stand at the show.

What do others think?

I agree with everything you've written.

What I don't get is how Linux is also being included into the 'CreativePro'. What really mainstream creative programs are available on Linux? GIMP? Raytracing rendering farms?

After the disappointment of last year's show I had decided not to go this year.
This simply re-enforces my decision.
How about a couple of crates of brown ale in the boot of a charabanc for a Wags outing to the show in Paree!

Very much agree with the sentiment. The advent of Apple Stores and the popularity of the Mac these days seems to have made the annual show a bit redundant.

I found the original Olympia shows and to a lesser extent, the Islington shows, always had an air of excitement about them. At a time when you were treated as something of an oddball for not going the PC route, there you were amongst fellow Mac people, speaking your language.

That was a time when the people on the stands really new what they were talking about. The last show I went to was two years ago and the stands seemed to be manned by people who couldn't give a damn.

I must admit, one thing that always amuses me, is the journalists who in their write-up of a forthcoming show, say: 'Come by our stand and say hello'. You go to the stand and you are ignored, – unless you want to take out a subscription. In which case, go and see the bimbo over there.

This does sound rather like the 1998 fiasco at Olympia, where Apple Expo was augmented by the cross-platform 'Total Design Technology', complete with utterly redundant barrier across the show floor (it was one ticket at one price for the lot, so it just emphasised what a half-cocked idea it was). Apple won't show again- if they don't turn up for Paris anymore (and that's had keynotes from Steve & Phil Schiller) they're hardly going to go to this one. It seems to come and go in waves- '97 was good, then that stinker- the shows at Islington were great, so was the first couple at Olympia, now it's slipping again. Last year was a letdown for me, this one might be worse still. Adobe are backing it in a big way at least, so that's something. I have that week off, so I might chance it...always Regent Street if I get bored!!!

The latest MacWorld Expo news doesn't bode well for a revival of the London show - or any of the trade shows.
