iPod touch and monitoring web content

Avatar David Fleetwood
Does anyone know of a way that we could control the websites our son (15 yo) could view on his iPod touch? We have a wireless network at home and we have to exclude him from this as it seems there are no parental controls on a Touch. We use Intego Content Barrier on our desktop which works well - too well according to our son!
If there was a way of controlling the content accessed at home we could allow him to use the wireless network. There is also the worry of him finding a wifi hotspot somewhere and not being subject to any restrictions.

Could you prevent direct access to the router by turning on access control (MAC address filtering) and then share the internet connection from one of your machines wirelessly? This would mean that machine has to be switched on for him to access the internet but I think it would then go through Content Barrier - assuming the selected machine has to go through Content Barrier by default.

David,

Have a look at http://www.censorit.com (it costs £4 per month mind!).

Thanks Mick and Martin for your comments. I have had a look at censorit.com and it would fit the bill although it isn't seemingly as watertight with an iPod as with other supported devices. However rather than pay £4pm, I think we will continue for the moment, to stop him accessing the web at all from his iPod touch! He will just have to use the desktop.
I need to look sometime at access control on our network- at present the only security measure is knowing the SSID (which is not broadcast), this is how it was set up for me. Would it be worthwhile bringing my router/modem, laptop and old iMac + ethernet bridge to the next Lytchett meeting?

What router do you use David?

Can you get to Tuesday's Bournemouth meeting? There's a rumour that one of the presentations will be on wireless networking and security.
