iPhone problem

Avatar Michael Corgan
Since upgrading to iOS 9.3.4 a problem has arisen when making a call. It is intermittent and has survived a hard restart of the iPhone. In brief and particularly when calling 121 the screen blacks out. I can bring it back by pressing the Home button, but there is then no response to any other button so that I cannot then terminate the call nor delete messages. I have to switch the iPhone off and then on again to start all over again, but usually the same problem recurs.
It may have nothing to do with the upgrade of course.
I have so far found one other person who has had the same experience, but has no answer to it.

Michael, since no-one else has responded:

I can only venture one outside chance: back up the phone to iTunes (using the encrypted back-up option to preserve your passwords etc), then reset it completely from Settings->General->Reset, then restore the back-up.

If there is a hardware fault lurking in there, you run the risk of losing use of the phone...

Thanks for the suggestion Tony. I did carry out a re-set, and restored successfully, but it has made no difference. I have also updated to 9.3.5 to no avail. However, that update has stopped the phone syncing with iTunes 11.4 on the Snow Leopard partition of my hard drive, so that I have to re-boot into El Capitan to do so!

I now have a Genius Bar appointment in Exeter on Monday, and hope that this may solve the problem

Michael,

Have you also tried putting the phone into Recovery Mode? Details here.
