Using Photoshop Elements 14.1 an image I 'saved as' a jpg on the desktop doesn't appear there. In Adobe Bridge CS5.1 the image shows up on the desktop! Where could it be hiding? Am using El Capitan 10.11.6 on my iMac.
I guess you mean that the file wasn't visible as an icon on your desktop backdrop. If you open a Finder window and navigate to Desktop (probably by clicking Desktop in the sidebar), you can see all the files/folders on the desktop - I presume this isn't where you couldn't see the file: it should be a reliable list of what's there.
If the icon is not visible then it could be hiding behind something else, a window or even another icon (I have seen OS X helpfully position one icon in exactly the same place as another so one is entirely hidden). Anyway, a possible workaround is to Control-click (or right-click) on the desktop and choose one of the cleanup options. This should tidy up all your icons and hopefully - magically - restore any that have been... misplaced.
Thanks Tony. I didn't view the list you mention but was viewing the desktop backdrop. When saving an image from PS Elements to the desktop, I wait for about 5 seconds and a 'thumbnail' image normally pops onto the desktop. I then drag the 'thumbnail' to a folder on the desktop and continue processing another image. When I posted the problem above, I had gone through this procedure twice without the 'thumbnail' appearing on the desktop. My 'best guess' is that I was impatient and hadn't waited long enough for the completed image to transfer to the desktop. This could be the wrong assumption but subsequently I have continued with the same procedure and waited for the 'thumbnails' to appear on the desktop before taking any other action. Btw - I also looked at the desktop window in 'Bridge' but the missing 'thumbnail' wasn't showing there either.
Tony, the folder in question wasn't showing as an option when doing the 'Save as' move. Sometimes a folder that I want to move an image to does show in the 'Save as' window but not always so it's desktop first then 'drag & drop' into the relevant folder.
If it's not showing, it's probably because it's showing you the "edited" version of the save window. To the right of the name box there's a downward pointing arrow - click that for full access to everywhere on your hard disc.
