Copying an iTunes Library

Avatar Michael Corgan
Two problems
According to Apple my iTunes Music Library can be found on my iMac hard drive at ~/Music. It isn't there.
How do I :
i) find the Library
ii) Copy it from iMac to MBP if I am running two versions of OS X (Snow Leopard on the iMac, El Capitan on the MBP) and two versions of iTunes (11.4 on the iMac and 12.4.1 on the MBP)

I can run both on El Capitan should that make mattters easier.

I don't think it's one file as in Photos, I think you need to copy the whole iTunes folder which you probably do have in ~/Music.

Is iTunes 11.4 the latest that will run on Snow Leopard? I don't know when iTunes changed from a library file to a folder containing lots of necessary files, but if you don't have a library file on either machine you'll probably be OK. You probably can't do any harm even if it doesn't work.

You will need to authorise the MBP to play anything you've bought from the iTunes store.

Moving an iTunes library is not something to do on a whim. Apple provides the procedure here to make sure that there are no stragglers or castaways. The article also describes how to find the library.

Bon voyage!
