Internet speed

Since adopting internet financial transactions on behalf of now the 4th family person (with B.................) I decided the time had come to install Kaspersky Internet security app as recommended by one of the organisations.

Coincidentally or otherwise, the last few weeks has been hell. Pages don't load, or are so unbelievably slow to load, freeze during attempted moves from on page to another etc. Non-loading can be ameliorated by clicking on "reload", but even then it's not speedy. This seems to occur on ordinary sites rather than financial ones (maybe because the financial ones are in the minority).

Has Kaspersky got anything to do with this. If so, should I get rid. Or what reliable tool should I use to check my internet connection / speed ?

'Has Kaspersky got anything to do with this' - It all depends how much Kaspersky has got it's 'grubby paws' in between you and the operating system. It could be possible Kaspersky is first checking every URL you are going to to first check if it is on some 'dodgy list'. But you will need to check with Kaspersky to see exactly what it is doing on your Mac. Personally, I would uninstall it (using their own uninstaller) and see if things improve, if it does you'll have your answer.

For speed checking.

Thanks Martin. You put your finger right on it, and some.

When I disabled Kaspersky the internet worked fine. So seemed to be a K related issue.

I had some difficulty liaising with Kaspersky (they then advised a changed website but had forgotten to update certain links) and then there was a failure to receive emails from them (Related to ditto, no not stuck in Spam folders).

Previously, I had installed the K Application brand-new late February and it updated as recently as this morning, despite frequent dialogue boxes popping up throughout the day saying an update had failed to occur because I hadn't got connected to source.

I sent K my original Wamug query and the update of attempts to diagnose and the supplementary bits and pieces (I noted that its help desk for various Mac OS's only went up to OS 10.10 and I am running 10.11.4 ). It responded by saying that the 2015 Application I had from them in late February was old hat and to see 2016 version created early February !!. Bah humbug... and games of leapfrog or perhaps snakes and ladders. The wonders of ever changing technology.

They sent me the link to the uninstaller for 2015 and then the link to the 2016 Application which I then have used.

Now it seems I must monitor my internet use for 5 to 7 days so as to recontact them again if necessary before my "case" is expunged.

At moment, with the changed App turned on, the loading of URLs and subsequent pages seems much improved. However eggs and chickens and all that..... watch this space.

For the moment at least, thank you Martin very much for lighting my fuse.

No probs, I'll add this story as another reason why I avoid Anti Virus/Malware software :-)
