Copying LPs to the Mac using Audacity.

I posed a problem in getting Audacity recordings to play over my speakers at the Dorchester meeting last evening, but was unable to make notes of the suggested solution(s). Since then matters have progressed. I can now hear the .aup file on the Mac but the entire Audacity File menu is greyed out as are its Preferences. However I can save the file by closing it.

I cannot hear the recording as it takes place - the Speaker Volume Controls in the Audio MIDI Setup Audio Devices Pane are greyed out and at zero for the Input side of the USB Audio Codec, while functioning on the Output side.

I would like to be able to a) save the resulting .aup file into iTunes, b) export the file from the Audacity File menu, and c) adjust the input volume in the MIDI Setup.
