Guest User on a Mac

Avatar Mark Ford
iMac running 10.11.1 - Automatic Login is Off. It displays a List of Users on start-up.
The controls for that are here: System Preferences ->Users & Groups

I thought I had set up my Mac so that an 'Other User' is a Guest User [Enabled, Managed] and is set up so that it doesn't need a password -
..the box entitled "Allow guests to log in to this computer" is ticked -
..the blurb under the tick says 'Logging in to the guest account does not require a password.'
I have also enabled parental controls on the same screen

I find am unable to log into the Guest User from the Log-in screen on start-up or from the Menu Bar as it demands a password.
What have I missed?

I may be wrong, but don't you just hit the return key when prompted for a password?

I have had this happen to me Mark, and if I remember correctly when you have ticked the box allowing logon without password you have to restart your Mac.

Thanks Trevor & Doug - I tried your ideas but without success.
This is what seems to work but I somehow feel there is a better way.
From the Menu bar click on the Admin name,
In the drop-down click on Login Window,
Double click on the writing "Guest User' [not the grey person's head],
A Guest User window opens that has no access to the Admin User without the password.
If you wish to get rid of the Guest User then you have to shut down the Mac - I can't find another way.
I can now leave my grandchildren to play about as they wish.

Mark,

I saw one report online suggesting that deleting the Guest user account (completely, from System Prefs) and then recreating had solved this problem. I wouldn't be optimistic but it's worth a try if you've given up waiting for a walk in the sunshine (dullest November on record and December looking like good staying-in-and-computing weather too).

Steady on Tony,
it has been a bit dull but some of my roses are flowering for the third time, the fuschias are being prolific and the rhubarb has started sprouting again. Roll on you Global Warming!
