Black Hole iMovie

Avatar Graham Whent
While making my last movie I lost about 10% of the photos from the final movie although they appeared in the timeline. I tried everything for 2 days, altering renumbering moving them from Photos to iPhoto to the desktop I can only think the timeline is a thumbnail with no link to the original. I finished the movie by emailing the picture to myself dragging it to the desktop then dragging into iMovie. Only happened since El Capitan/iMovie update. WHICH ONE DO I REINSTALL OR DO I DITCH THE LOT ?????.

Graham,
I'm sure you're right about thumbnails in iMovie. El Capitan's Photos app is an upgrade, as well as the base OS, so a lot changed.

The problem may just be that you upgraded while the iMovie project was work in progress. Why not try building a quick test project with a similar structure (but no detailed work so it doesn't take lots of your time) now that everything is stable? If that can be saved and reloaded without losing anything, it may give you some confidence that all is well (or not!).

Hi Tony. Movie started after updates. El Capitan 10.11.1 & iMovie 10.1. on my Mid 09 MacBook Pro. Tried a quick test as you suggested. Things have gone from bad to worse. The pictures that were showing in the timeline are now black!

Graham,
It seems that you are not alone: a number of people have reported similar issues on Apple's forums.

Some report that the problem is resolved by iMovie 10.1. Are you running that? If not, I suggest you give it a try. It seems likely that there's bug in iMovie so looking for an update sounds like a good plan.
