The USB ports on my Mac Mini late 2009 2.26 GHz Intel core 2 duo seem to be dying one by one. Last week the port I was using for my keyboard just died, so I used another one and all was fine. Tonight another port just died so I'm now using what might well be the last one. Is it likely to be worth repairing or do I just think c'est la vie and look for another computer?
Eric,
Just one thought: it's just possible that the keyboard has a fault that is damaging the ports (though they should be protected against this). If you have another keyboard, it might be prudent to use it instead.
I doubt it's worth having the machine repaired, put the money towards a shiny new one!
Thank you Tony, but I sort of hope you're wrong, I think, possibly, or right, in a way. What happened was.......I bought a brand new USB keyboard that was few years old but had never been out of the packaging, and a new Logitek mouse to go with it. I bought them with the intention of moving the G5 to the other side of the room. However, I gave the G5 the old keyboard and mouse and kept the new ones for the Mini. So if the new keyboard is slowly destroying the mini .....
I'll get a wireless one anyway!
Hi Tony, I can't hear it but I am a bit deaf (according to my family). After a big panic on Saturday when I thought I'd have to nip out and buy a new one, and the difficulty of getting hold of a human being on the phone, it seems to have settled down. I watch it closely now and constantly put my hand round the back, and only allow myself an hour at a time with an hour's rest before I start again. We're going away tomorrow and I'll reassess the situation when we come home.
