A Flash Free Future

Avatar Eleanor Spenceley
Given the continuing number of security holes in Flash, I think it's been long time overdue to get it out of my browser (Safari).

However, BBC iPlayer will not run any more without it, but there is a simple workaround in Safari.

1. Enable the Develop menu in the menu bar by going to Safari Preferences->Advanced.
2. Open a new Tab and go to Develop->User Agent->Safari iOS8.1-iPad
3. (Re)load BBC website.

Just that browser tab will now work like it was an iPad Safari browser and you'll be able to watch iPlayer.

Other benefits, no more time wasting Flash games _and_ sometimes simpler adverts appearing (instead of Flash based ads), best though no more need to update Flash every other day!

Disadvantages: Sometimes web pages work like it was for an iPad, but that's easy to sort out, open another tab and reload the web page you were trying to read.

That's interesting Martin - I didn't realise that the User Agent (and presumably other settings) could work on a "per tab" basis.
