My 12 year old granddaughter wants a gold iPad Air for her birthday. She said she would be happy with one that's 'only got 1 gig', jolly decent of her. Are these a good buy, anything to watch out for?
The iPad Air 2 comes in 16gig, 64gig and 128 gig and starts at £399 so she is a lucky grand daughter. The iPad AIr is slightly cheaper but doesn't come in gold, only grey or silver.
I have an iPad Air which I find excellent. The battery seems to last a long time and the display is very clear. It is very thin and light. Like all Apple kit it is beautifully designed but expensive.
A generous granddad may also like to consider whether a wi-fi only model would keep grand daughter happy or whether her modest requirements would extend to mobile connectivity.
Thanks Lionel; it has to be gold as she started being a woman many years ago. I meant to say 'only 16 gig'; Is the mobile one much dearer?
Only the first 50 quid is the birthday present, she is earning the rest by doing a Linguaphone course very day. Its extremely hard work so I needed a really worthwhile bribe!
What I was thinking of re the drawbacks was fragility and insurability.
The mobile one is more expensive but only needed if it's important to be able to access the internet when not in a wi-fi zone i.e. at home or in a café/hotel etc. but then you do have the ongoing cost of the mobile contract.
Depending on how much time you have before the birthday, check www.play.com - they often have 'today only' deals with excellent price reductions of a level I haven't seen elsewhere. However, the iPad Air 2 was featured a couple of days ago so may not be round again in time.
It was cheaper than that on their one-day deal. In my experience Apple are very good on warranty if the machine is bought direct from them so at the prices you quote, I'd go for the extra "insurance" of buying from Apple.
I'll do that I think, thanks Mick. Only thing is, last time I looked in that shop window it seemed to be run by schoolchildren. Still, be fair, the Government works alright like that. Oh no, where am I? not another senior moment!
