PDFs on an iPad

Avatar Michael Corgan
A friend has asked how she can view a PDF on her brand new Mini iPad . She downloaded a copy of a local news magazine, but I couldnt find the download. My guess is that it can be viewed in her iBooks app - but where might it be hiding, and how to move it into the app that will read it?
Help much appreciated!

Hi Michael,

I have just sent myself a PDF file from my MacBook Pro, opened it and read it on my IPad 3 and also on Joyce's IPad Mini 3.

When on holiday I have received numerous PDF files on a number of occasions without any problems.

I have also just downloaded a PDF file from Worcester Bosch Boilers and there was no problems in reading it.

Hi Drew

Part of the problem is finding the downloaded PDF - she downloaded it in Safari with her iPad. I don't know where it might be stored. Clues welcome!

Hi Michael, try to mail the PDF to the iPad.
You will be able to find it in the inbox.
I have just done this and it worked from iMac to iPad.

Hi Michael - on an iPad it won't be stored as the iPad has no file storage system like the Mac. If she's downloaded it in Safari it will appear in Safari, displayed like any other web page but if she navigates to another page it will disappear. If she wants to store it for future use, she can send it to an online storage system like iCloud Drive or DropBox

Thanks for the answers - I can now pretend that I knew what had happened all the time!

When I've received PDF files via email before, or found them in Safari, I have the option to 'open in iBooks' then they seem to be accessible in there, (until I upgrade the iOS and often they will then disappear!)

Hmm... when you 'see' a .pdf in Safari you are just looking at the page as rendered in that (or any) browser. If you want to 'keep' it (the .pdf) you should save it (cmnd + s). No need to "print to .pdf", just save the file in Safari.
