I need to replace my netgear router as it's reaching the end of it's life. Can anyone tell me which is the best one to replace it with. I'm thinking of a Netgear D 6300 AC 1600 but have wondered about a EA 6900 AC1900. I use a G5, Sony Viao, iPad, vodafone My Sure Signal and any visiting laptops etc. I would be grateful for any help and information. Thanks Judith
Hi Judith, I have a Netgear router that has been sitting in a box since I moved to Dorchester. It is a Netgear N150 Wireless ADSL2 + modem router. DGN 1000. It is wireless. It has 4 Ethernet ports.
Would it be useful to you? Let me know. Georgia Cheer
I doubt there is a clear cut "best one" but you need to consider a few things now. Do you currently have - or will you have in the router's lifetime - fibre. I haven't checked the model numbers you gave but some routers will now work with both copper and fibre.
Hello Mick, we do not have fibre and as we live in the country I can't see us being able to have it anytime soon. I didn't know any routers worked with both. They are presumably much more expensive and may not last until fibre comes our way but it maybe worth considering
You might be getting fibre sooner than you think. Check Hampshire Superfast Broadband.
We are equally rural and we were enabled for fibre a couple of weeks ago.
Is there a possibility that your ISP will supply you with new modem router free particularly if you threaten to leave them as any new provider will provide one as part of the package? I read that BT HG612V3B Modem is good.
Adding to my last post, I use a simple D-Link modem D-Link Modem and an Airport Extreme which acts as the router and WiFi and is great. Apple is never the cheapest solution but it works faultlessly.
