Avatar Douglas Cheney
Has anyone tried to run a backup drive with Yosemite on it ?. I tried yesterday with no success at all, the Mac got as far as the desktop picture and the all i had the was the spinning umbrella for 20 minutes. I the had trouble get my Mac to start up properly from the inbuilt drive.

I have started up successfully in Yosemite from a SuperDuper Back-up. Using a little self powered 1TB Western Digital USB 3 HD. It is quite a bit slower than the internal fusion drive, but nothing like 20 minutes. Best of luck.

I erased both my backup drives and ran SuperDuper on them. I then tried to use one as a start up drive again with very little success, took about 20 minutes to get to a screen with all items displayed then I tried to run Safari which just bounced in the dock for 5 minutes, I them had to force quit. So I am giving up on SuperDuper, has any one any suggestions as to an alternative.

SuperDuper works fine here too Doug but you could try Carbon Copy Cloner.

I think your first message says that you had problems starting-up from your internal drive. If the super duper copies are from that drive then there may be a problem affecting the image on all the drives.

I'm a little paranoid about this but I suggest you run a Verify on your internal drive (using Disk Utility). If there are problems then repair them, then try the process again. I haven't used Superduper for a long time but it always used to be very reliable.

No it wasn't my Mac HD that wouldn't load it was a backup disc, and emails between me and Shirt Pocket have worked out that Avast antivirus was causing the problem so it has gone from the system
