Help with proving something (or not) to Plus Net

Avatar Eleanor Spenceley
Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some help. The pages in my websites http://www.frangipanibeads.co.uk http://www.crumpetsfarm.com do not appear to be loading properly with people on slower connections. Both are hosted on Plus Net.

What happens is that a page will hang trying to load images leaving a partially loaded mess!
Like this at: http://idisk.mac.com/martinws-Public/Picture-1-08-38-14.png

What is annoying I've put the frangipanibeads website on www.godaddy.com (on a different domain) and I never get any problems loading the website.

I am looking for anyone to try my websites http://www.crumpetsfarm.com and http://www.frangipanibeads.co.uk d, try 4 or 5 pages at random and report to me if you have any problems in loading any of the pages and do this for a couple of days.

Also, can you tell me what your connection speed is: Use this site to find out. http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/

Other information I will need, what browser you tried it on and what version of your OS (even a Windows machine would be nice and when you tried it.

You could send me an image of the failed website as well (though it is not necessary).

Note: I will be moving frangipanibeads to godaddy in the next couple of days since the staff at Plus Net think I am some useless PC user, so please try both domains.

My email address: [undisclosed email]

Thanks,

Martin

Thanks all who have responded so far. One extra thing, please be sure the web page loads completely. i.e. The progress bar completes, 'spinning thing' in Safari stops and any Loading message finishes.

Thanks.

Martin

Hi Martin - my guess is Plus Net is your ISP. I had a similar issue a week or so ago but with almost all web sites. I forced the router to drop the connection then re-connected and it's been fine since. Are you sure it's them serving your sites that's the problem rather than your broadband? (My speed regularly shows >6000 but that didn't help!)

Hi Mick,

Here are my observations:

1) My sites failed to load properly at Fran's daughters home. However, everyone else who have tested it have been successful. Admittedly all with reasonable to fast speeds.
2) I loaded my site on GoDaddy and did not get any problem downloading it from there with my slow connection.
No other site I surf to experience hang-ups on my connection/system like my own site on plus net.
3) My other site www.crumpetsfarm.com (on plus net) has hung on 2 pages out of 10 I've tried with my faster speed today.
4) I've tried it with Mac OS X 10.5, 10.4, 10.4, Windows XP, IE 5, IE 6, Safari, Camino and Firefox. All show 'hang-up' issues.

Regards,

Martin

You are using a mix of character sets within your naming structure eg: Some names have capital letters others haven't. This is known to throw certain errors on older servers or links in the servers that serve the pages.

As an example:
http://www.frangipanibeads.co.uk/Miyuki/Resources/ -- WILL list the directory in Safari
http://www.frangipanibeads.co.uk/Miyuki/resources/ -- WON'T list the directory in Safari

...Listing should be disabled anyway.

Don't know if that is causing the errors but it is something to be avoided.

Hi Terry,

Plus Net has a fairly up to data server setup. Now my speed has increased the site is performing better (which does not fix it for other people with slower connections!).

I've now moved frangipanibeads.co.uk to GoDaddy. I'm going to leave www.crumpetsfarm.com on plus net for a while to continue testing plus net servers.

Thanks all for the help.

Martin.
