Safari on iPad problem

On one of our two iPads (both on v 8.1.2) this message appears when trying to access a website: "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding". That is not one particular website but all fail to open.
Everything else works including emails from/to the iPad. The other iPad has no problem and it uses the same server and router on our home network. The settings are the same on both iPads. Any help anyone?

On the non-working one, shut down completely (hold the power button then "slide to power off") then start again
