Having first accused me of being unable to spell my own name, and then of forgetting my own birthday, then graciously allowing me to create an Apple ID although I must have had one already as I've bought things from them in the past, Apple have sent me a confirmation email in the above language. Dare I click on the links at the risk of being labeled a Lithuanian?

Hi Eric. You will have reported this to Apple already, if not, do so now. Definitely not messages you should respond to.
Short of the phenomenon being a disturbance in the Newquay area from the top secret Apollo North transatlantic cable (“the work of the NSA, or Ukrainian dissidents trying to upset the Lithuanians”) It’s a scam. Make very sure that your Apple ID password comms are secure.

Even though I didn't click on the link, App store just allowed me to sign in; whether they recognised me from a year ago or yesterday I don't know. When I attempted to buy Pages It simply said my computer was unsuitable, refusing to let me buy the earlier version. I've been wondering for some time now whether 'Loyal Macintosh User' is an anagram of 'sucker'.

Eric, try 'phoning the Apple Store, Princesshay, Exeter. ([undisclosed telephone]). If you can, get through to AppleCare and someone will take it from there. You should never divulge your Apple ID password to anyone and you should always be clear that you are entering it on a genuine Apple website. It may be sensible to check your other financial accounts in case someone has nobbled your Apple account.
