Browser malfunction

It's possibly because the browser is not able to correctly display the most up-to-date web technology. I suggest you update the OS to version 10.6.8 (the latest version of Snow Leopard available) and then see if there's an update for Chrome. If it still doesn't work properly, try Safari or Firefox.

I have now installed Snow Leopard, so that I am now using OSX10.6.8, and Google Chrome.
Sadly this has made no difference.

I was using Safari until I installed Google Chrome last week.
I have not tried Firefox yet

You were using Safari before you updated the OS to 10.6.8 - see if there's a newer version of it using software update or just try it again.

It has gently improved over the last few days and now is working normally.
