a good monitor for a Mac Mini

Avatar David Fleetwood
I'm thinking of changing my iMac for a Mac Mini plus a suitable monitor. The reason is that I wanted a screen bigger than my current 21.5 one but not as big as the 27 in. one.
Does anyone have any particular models or ranges they would recommend and do I have to look out for any particular connections to be able to use it with a Mini?

Just check the video out socket(s) available on your chosen model - possibly just HDMI - and make sure your monitor has that socket or that Apple sell an HDMI to whatever adapter.

I would not discount a 27inch monitor.

I have both an Apple 27 and 24 inch monitor, the physical difference is not that much but the resolution 2560x1440 v 1920x1200 is noticeable.

Going back 4-5 years before my Apple monitors, I did try out a Dell monitor since it had 'excellent' reviews everywhere. After 2 days trying to tone down a very vibrant red I sent it back.

It appears you have to be careful with the monitors you buy if you value a good colour balance/accuracy. I suggest you see the monitor before you buy or at least have a very good returns policy.

(My first and last venture to the PC side I think :-)

The monitor that I'd recommend is the Iiyama Prolite X2485WS-B1.
I've heard that the iMac monitors are made by Iiyama!

This 24" model has the same aspect ratio 16x10 as the previous iMac and a glass front!
It even has a Display port input, as well as VGA and DVI, so is easily connected up to a Mac Mini.

It's available from Novatech, and currently there is one available shown online at their Portsmouth (Nr Porchester) branch.

Hope this helps.

Saw a review of monitors in one of the computer mags recently. Might have been Mac Format. They gave a rather glowing report on a 24 inch AOC. Available on Amazon for £120. And to think we were paying over a thousand a few years back for one of those (at the time) enormous 21 inch CRT monitors from Apple or Mitsubishi.

Thanks everyone for your input, some very useful comments which i will take away and mull over before taking the plunge. My wife is already coveting my current iMac!
