Another Yosemite Warning

Avatar Drew McFarlane
Hi all,

Ever since "Upgrading" to an Apple Mac I have converted numerous files from Pages into Word and e-mailed them to various members of my fishing club. I press "Share" > Word and they appear as an attachment in an e-mail.

Since upgrading to Yosemite I can no longer do this. The 'Share" feature has been greyed out.

Am I the only one with this problem? Or is it a bug in the system.

Your assistance will be gratefully received, as I have an AGM to deal with in the very near future and lots of documents to e-mail to over 33 members.

Yours aye,

Drew

Have you updated MS Office to the latest update, 2011.14.4.5

Hi Doug,

I only use Pages, I don’t have MS Office.

I have just tried it without a problem.
File -> Export to -> Word
Next -> docx -> Export

Do you have the newest version of Pages I wonder? Its 5.5

If there is still a problem can you save as pdf and send those?

Having had a brief chat with Drew earlier this evening, my understanding is that he is conmcerned about the loss of the Share function, which has its own tab in the toolbar at the top of the window in Pages. From what Drew told me, in earlier versions of the OS he has been able to select a group of documents and then using the Share menu, convert them to Word and insert them into an email in Mail. Whereas Export, which I also use, can only convert one document at a time. I have to confess that I'd notexplored the Share menu, and having taken a look, it seems that it will only work with Mail, which I don't use.

Hi Drew,
this is what works for me, and is really just a re-ordering of menu items.

Given a Pages document do this:
go to the "Share" menu at the right of the top menu bar
click on "Send a copy"
choose "Mail"
choose "Word"
choose .docx or, for wider acceptability, .doc.

Your file appears converted to a Word .docx or optional .doc within an email ready to send (apart from address and subject).

You can, of course, drag that email attachment to your desktop for storage, or to open it in the excellent (open source and free) 'LibreOffice' available here.

Hi Mark. Yes. It seems he is running the latest version of Pages (5.5) but under an earlier OS (Mavericks?) than Yosemite (he sent me a screen shot).

Because Yosemite has very significant changes in all inter-Apple hard and software (e.g. "Continuity" etc., the sharing facilities in all the Apple App updates delivered after Yosemite was made available to all probably have similar issues.

Solution? Update to Yosemite, or revert (from a clone backup perhaps) to a previous version of Pages.

I am running OS X Yosemite 10.10. on a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010).

I am using Pages 09 4.3. I have the latest version of Pages 5.5 (2109) but all my files are in iCloud.

Cloud you access your iCloud account by using Safari and going to iCloud.com, drag the files to your desktop and convert to Word from there using either version of Pages? Or even send them as pdf files if the recipients don't need to alter them or perhaps don't use Word?

This puts me off upgrading to Yosemite at the moment: http://www.product-reviews.net/2014/10/20/os-x-yosemite-wifi-bug-drop-issues-during-review/

Hi all,

I have solved the e-mai/share problem, thanks to an afternoon with Euan.

I believe that my 2010 Mac Book Pro (mid 2010) is functioning as it should be with no noticeable problems.

However I believe that there may be a few problems with Yosemite. The Apple Support Site is well worth reading before you "Upgrade?". I believe that I as well as many others, may have a Wi-Fi problem

Thank you to all who have taken the time to assist me with this problem, this is what being a member of WAMUG is all about.

Yours aye,

Drew
