30th Macintosh Anniversary (anecdotal history)

Avatar Euan Williams
People interested in the history of the development of Lisa and Macintosh may enjoy visiting to the Mac-specific folklore.org site.

It's a valuable collection of a considerable number of short, often illustrated, memoirs from Apple's pioneer Mac developers (Bill Atkinson, Burrell Smith, Steve Capps, Jef Raskin, Andy Hertzfeld, Susan Skare, and so many others).

This may be a minority interest for members who prefer to take their Macs for granted, but If you ever wonder about the thinking behind the original Mac's technology, have a look at some of the articles, maybe starting here: Busy Being Born (Andy Hertzfeld)

Update: the original video from the Boston Computer Society's meeting which closely followed Steve Jobs unveiling of the Mac to Shareholders has been recovered and is available here.

While the beginning is a reprise of Steve's shareholder presentation an few days before (including possibly the best preserved video of the Superbowl Ad) what follows are "as it happened" demonstrations of the original MacPaint, MacWrite, and Chess given by their creators right in front of the BCS audience and ends with some of the Mac team walking around discussing issues with BCS members in the body of the hall. If technical history is your thing, take time to view it.
