Apple has started to roll out Apple Intelligence, so at this meeting we took a look at what is currently available. To benefit from this, you require Macs and iPads with M chips, or the latest iPad mini with A17 chip, iPhone 15 Pro, and all iPhone 16 models.

We looked at summaries in emails and messages and how to get Siri to read out summaries. Writing Tools, Image Playground, Siri requests either typed or spoken will now offer to answer more complex questions using ChatGPT. Searches on Safari now show a summary at the top of the displayed results. We had a look at Image Playground but got into difficulties with Apple Image Wand, probably because of trying to use an example already used in Dorchester. Cleanup is a great new AI feature in Photos. Search in Photos can include even more detailed descriptions such as "Cars coloured red".

As demonstrated, Writing Tools work in several apps including non-Apple apps but, using Proofread, whereas in Mail and Notes you get a chance to step through changes, these are not shown in Pages and Word; no doubt future updates will sort this out. Using Writing Tool, we asked the built-in ChatGPT to write an explanation of golfing terms, which it did very effectively.

The latest update of Mail included with iOS 18.2 now 18.3, is not limited to the devices listed above now, by default, shows Inbox Mail sorted into categories. To revert to the more familiar list, click on the 3 dots top right of the Inbox screen and change.

In Q&A with the help of search we discovered that on an iOS device you can download and retain documents or folders from iCloud Drive by touching and holding on them producing a drop-down menu with the option Keep Downloaded.
