He then handed over to a Spectacles Free Euan who, before demonstrating Capto, showed how to use Apple’s, built-in to the Mac, QuickTime for recording all or part of the screen with editing features. QuickTime only records sound via its loudspeakers whereas Capto can record from the internal audio. Euan showed how to record all or part of a screen using Capto and the basic included editing before exporting to import to .mov for further and more sophisticated editing. He showed how to add media i.e. video, images and audio to a project library, how to split clips, add transitions, fade sound in and out, overlay sound etc. The final Movie can then be shared including (export) to file mp4. Euan showed a movie he had made showing many of these features including various sound effects which are included with the iMovie app.
iMovie is quite a sophisticated app which needs plenty of time to master, so David admitted to being very apprehensive at talking about iMovie for the iPad. Much to his surprise, for the basic user it is a delight. He had taken various short videos at the Dorchester Curiosity Centre plus one still image. In iMovie on the iPad he selected Start New Project and then Movie. He selected the items he wanted to include and then “Create Movie” and that is exactly what iMove did, complete with transitions between clips and Ken Burns effect on the still image. To add a title he selected a Background and then selecting the background was given the option to add a title. Clearly one can do much more but David was impressed at the simplicity of the process and strongly recommended members to have a go on their iPads.
David covered a few reminders of IOS features. Editing the Control Panel. Selecting text, including text as an image, having it translated and even the translation spoken, changing the language, and copying and pasting the translated text. Editing and sharing screen shots without necessarily adding to Photos. How to convert any document to pdf via the print dialogue window.
We ended the meeting by looking at how Apple systems can now read out any text in any app.
