Annie and Gill showed us how they are digitising the photo collection at the Dorchester Museum. They are working their way through boxes of photos mainly grouped by location. In addition to digitising the photos they record any notes on the photos along with other defining features enabling detail searches, via the fully featured database, in the future e.g. Dovecote. Where they come on interesting features of an item, person or group they do further research to add some history and biography to the database. They are working alongside others who are digitising all the collections of the museum, a condition of the Lottery funding.

Mick showed differences in interacting with Home Button and Facial Recognition iPhones, accessing the Control Panel, switching and quitting Apps, search features etc.

David Whitton, whose grandson had a major iPhone failure whilst travelling in Vietnam, advised us to have (hard) backup for access to tickets and money when normally relying on a smart phone. He also recommended making use of the Account Recovery and Legacy Contact features available under the Password and Security settings. David M gave a short Keynote on how to set up and make use of Account Recovery, which enables one to have a contact help recover your Apple Account when you have forgotten the password. David W confirmed that setting up a Legacy Contact is very similar.

David M gave a brief demonstration of the free ChatGPT app on IOS, ending the evening with a 12 minute condensed video summary of Apple’s WWDC 2023, published on YouTube by CNet.
