Euan gave us a detailed demonstration of how to use iMovie, Apple’s inbuilt movie editing app. He showed how the the menus on the left of the screen offer inputs to the movie such as media, Audio, Transitions etc and the right hand menu and sub window the editing features you can make on the item selected from left, that menu changing dependant on the item selected.
Across the lower half of the screen is where you assemble the movie.
Euan started by showing the various items he had in My Media on the left of the screen which he had also added fairly randomly to the assembled movie timeline below. He then played the movie simply jumping from one piece of media to the next. He started by showing how a single image is turned into several movie frames and how to edit the way the image will appear, with the ability to zoom in, for example, as the image is played. He then set about adding titles and transitions, shortening some movie items and changing positions of media to make a more logical whole. He also showed how you can add and edit sound with the ability of separating the sound track from the video. All the time he was briefly running parts of the movie to check and modify the edits. Despite being fairly random media the final movie flowed smoothly and quite logically as a finished project.
