Salisbury — Oct 25th 2022

The main body of the meeting, attended by eight members and one guest, was devoted to Ventura, the public release of MacOS 13.0 which took place yesterday. Barry had taken part in the trials of beta releases and now had the latest version loaded on a MacBook Air. He gave an illustrated demonstration of all the new notable changes in the software that had taken place and explained how, in particular, Stage Manager was the most significant improvement in the software and would greatly facilitate the ease of working with multiple applications.

He pointed out that there was still a need for improvement in stability: Stage Manager itself sometimes acted in odd ways, adding or removing apps from the desktop apparently randomly; mail did not always connect to its server unless shut down and then reopened; and the Keynote presentation currently on screen vanished from the desktop and was not found in iCloud or any backup but was finally located in the Bin. He counselled that if members only had one MacOS device, maybe they should wait for an update to be issued before downloading the current Ventura version.

The meeting also dealt with a number of member problems, including how to add rows to a Numbers spreadsheet, how to use the delete key efficiently, and whether or not it was possible to link more than one iPhone to a car's audio system using bluetooth.

Thank you Barry I found your presentation explaining the latest Mac OS Ventura very interesting and thanks for taking the trouble to sign up to the many Beta versions that must have taken quite a lot of your time.
