David Moon showed the basic graphics common to the Apple apps, Pages, Keynote and even Numbers. David focused on Pages set to Page Layout (“Document Body” unticked). Apple include a wide range of vector shapes, basic and covering a number of subjects e.g. food, people, transport etc. In all case the can be made editable by adding points midway between existing and converting to curved and straight lines by double clicking a point, with the option to use Bézier curves is in Preferences. Some objects can be broken into parts. Under format arrange shapes can linked together in various ways. David showed how shapes can be used as clipping masks for both other shapes and photos. Creations can be copied and pasted into emails. The iPad version works in much the same way but is a bit more fiddly than the Mac. Also there are fewer fonts built into the iPad and if intending to share a document between Mac and iPad, a Keynote for example, take care to make sure the fonts are available on both devices. David expressed surprise that adding new fonts to the iPad via the App Store seemed very un-Apple but it seems as though if using higher end apps such as Photoshop or Affinity, adding fronts via these apps is more straight forward.
Trevor Craven showed his workaround to provide more genteel addresses for Christmas Card. Having created a group for his Christmas card list, he then makes use of the company field e.g for a contact card for John and Dorothy Brookings he enters Dr & Mrs Brookings in the Company field. The for the purpose of printing out the address labels he just turns on then Company option for each card. He then showed the print label option cautioning to make sure that you select the Avery A4 option, he uses Staples, Avery A4 L7163 compatible. 99.1mm x 38.1mm, 14 labels per sheet. 100 per pack.
After the break we discussed Monterey and the new high powered incredibly fast Apple MacBook Pro
