Bournemouth — Sep 21st 2021
Lockdown purchases included home automation, notably ‘connected’ doorbells, multi-port dongles for USB-C Macs, new iPhones and Apple’s new AirTags. The generally agreed most useful feature of Apple’s technology during lockdown was video conferencing/calling, Skype, Zoom and FaceTime all got a mention. A few phobias about being on-camera have apparently been discarded along the way.
Questions included disappearing sounds on Macs and iPhones, self-dimming screens and scrambled music libraries (in the Mac Music app). Big Sur seems to have gone smoothly for everyone with only some relatively small niggles. No-one had been caught out by a 32-bit app stopping working so the developers have clearly been doing a good job.
Bournemouth will be choosing a new organiser shortly as Tony announced he is stepping down before December’s meeting, volunteers are needed to keep the meetings in existence. Tony has been in the role for 7 years, Mick clarified that the AUG Wessex pension is available after 8 years service: other organisers take note!
