Beaminster — Jul 2nd 2019
One of the smallest attendances for a very long time to hear Michael and Euan give widely different presentations. (Maybe there was something interesting on the telly?) There were just 9 people present to hearMichael gave an updated version of his presentation outlining the things that Spotlight, the free app that comes with all Macs, can do. He also showed that there is an equivalent in iOS for iPhone and iPad users, they too can make rapid calculations and conversions of measurements and currency, find out the weather all over the world, get dictionary definitions, find stuff on the web and in Wikipedia and, even more important, in files. The latter can be checked out just by using a single word that might be in the contents. And then it is possible to find local restaurants and cinema programmes too. Quite a useful app!
Euan showed a carefully edited version of the proceedings at the WWDC (Word Wide Developers Conference) in San Francisco at which Apple showed off all the changes that are coming to new versions of the Mac operating system (Catalina) and to the iPhone and iPad (now to have its own OS), many of which will prove to be extremely helpful and deserve finding the original film on Google to look at in greater detail and take in the implications of such things as the ability to use an iPad as an extra screen for a Mac, and new uses for existing apps. A lot to take in!
