For once we'd had a request for a particular type of presentation. There are applications that most of us use (the iLife suite comes to mind) but there's bound to be some simple features that we've never discovered so the request was for a sort of guide for beginners to some of the features we may have missed.

We started this series with iPhoto as being probably the application most used. Of course we covered the basics but spent some time on the use of star ratings and more particularly keywords. Did you know that you can search for photos that have keyword A and keyword B? Some of us did but fewer knew that you can also search for those that have keyword A but not keyword B - or vice versa. The other point that came out was that there are two ways of setting up a slide show that have a key difference. Only one of them allows you to get your Mac to automatically adjust the length of time each slide displays so that the show fits exactly to the music you've chosen. This is particularly useful if your chosen slides and music require a length of display which is not in whole seconds.

The second half was devoted to the use of your own domain name for email addresses so that your address can remain constant even if you change ISP. One member, sporting a brand new Vodaphone USB modem plugged into a MacBook actually went on line and purchased a domain name there and then. So at least one member found the presentation useful!
