Michael gave the first of a small series on what are variously known as Settings (in iOS) or System Preferences (on the Mac). He dealt with the first seven or eight as they show when brought up on iPad or iPhone, gave a brief description of what each setting does, and what options may be available, only got lost once, when he couldn’t get out of a setting which showed the area to tap on the screen, but not on his iPad! Basic stuff, but useful to know and the presentation came with a handy printout giving the details for each setting.

Mick then went into some detail about passwords, giving the reasons that they are required, how to best store them being sure that in addition to the actual password (and log-in where required) a careful note is kept showing which app or action requires which password. He has a very large list of his own, but has come across even bigger lists (and indeed there is one lady – in San Francisco – who has no less than 400 passwords!). He also gave a few tips about creating them and of apps which will both store and generate passwords.

All in all a useful evening with a good attendance – 18 people were present.
