Beaminster — Feb 6th 2018
Despite the weather, with snow falling, there was a good attendance at Beaminster - 18 people came to hear a presentation on how to improve photographs using Photos or Preview - the former on Mac, iPhone and iPad, the latter only on the Mac. Michael first showed what can be done with an iPhone, thanks to the wonderful photos that Clive Whaley had showed last year at Dorchester (with his permission needless to say!) Then a few tips on taking better photos. He then went on to show how the basic tools provided in both these apps could alter - by cropping and angling, and change - by making lighter or darker, altering the colour balance and depth, and improving the sharpness - of most images.
The differences between the versions of Photos on the Mac and in iOS were detailed and shown, and one of the more technical aspects, such that of removing noise (and explaining what noise means in this sense) was made very clear by both Euan and Roy Moore.
David Moon demonstrated marking up an image with the tools that are in the iOS versions of Photos. A similar explanation was given of the not inconsiderable range of tools that are part of Preview, and finally a few more of Clive Whaley’s photos rounded off the presentation.
