John Hooper appeared from the Mysterious East - well, Southampton - to give an enjoyable demonstration of ways to:
first, see what is in the smallest print on screen, creating either a magnifying glass to move around the screen, or enlarging the screen and moving around within that.
and second, get your Mac and iPad/iPhone to talk to you, listen to you,and turn what you say into text or to carry out an action such as calling a phone number from your Contacts or sending an email - as well as answering all but the silliest questions. Considering that the answers to these latter are provided by Apple in North Carolina, the speed of response was amazing.
Everyone immediately responded to the challenge off getting their Apple kit to do these things and there were soon multiple voices around the café, some gabbling at top speed until the user discovered how to slow the voice down.
John was able to help people who couldn’t get their devices to respond properly, and pointed out that earlier systems on both Mac and iPad/iPhone don’t always have the full range of help available in later versions.
It was a busy evening, and much appreciated (as was John Lemon’s help by bringing in his portable PA system to show off the voice responses).
As always Mick was on hand to help with problems, which this time seemed to focus on moving photos between devices.
And in response to a request we hope next month to sort out what iTunes actually does, and how it is now in two - iTunes and Music.
Looking forward to seeing everyone - and after a good attendance this evening of 20, including two welcome newcomers, we hope too that the numbers continue to grow.
