John Hooper gave us a very interesting presentation about the Vision Impairment Features found on the iPad and the Mac (most of them should also work on the iPhone).
John started by demonstrating how to use Fullscreen Zoom then Window Zoom, the latter being fully adjustable using a 'floating' controller icon.
He then covered Magnifier, which uses the main camera to view small text clearly.
Next, the Speak Text feature allows any text on the screen to be read back to you in a selected voice. There are many voices to choose from both male and female and a full range of languages that can be used, also the voices can be made to speak slower or faster.
Dictation, when activated in Settings, lets you dictate a message such as an e-mail.
Finally, SIRI allows you to interact with your iPad or Mac by voice. It can perform several functions, such as Internet Searching and calculating very fast mathematical questions. SIRI will only work when connected to the internet because it needs to use the Apple Servers.
John explained how to activate and deactivate each feature in turn.
This was a very busy presentation with a lot of feedback along the way and some members trying things out and asking loads of questions.
