Andy gave us a very interesting talk about a Database Application - MySQL, which he had learnt from a course attended last year.
The software is free since it is Open Source, and is fully functional and very comprehensive.
He explained how to set it up and entered some details, then showed us how you can quickly display some searched results.
After the break, Mick showed us how to produce a slideshow with music on the iPad.
The end result was very impressive, and he also explained how he managed to get the music to fit exactly.
The Q&A session covered several topics, including...
using Dropbox, FileChute and other software to send large files over the internet
various ways to reduce battery drain on an iPad
iCloud and iCloud Drive
organizing emails
backwards compatibility problems with Pages documents in iOS 8
possible problems using an old printer on operating systems newer than Snow Leopard
and how to delete a free downloaded U2 album from iTunes
The next meeting will be on Saturday 18th April at 10.30am.

For those that are interested I have provided links to the AMP stacks available for Mac OS X - XAMPP and MAMP, the first of these is probably the best (XAMPP) and the other one I have used called MAMP. Both are free. The AMP part stands for Apache, MySQL and PHP. All of this is open source and well documented, and community supported.
XAMPP - https://www.apachefriends.org/index.html
MAMP - http://www.mamp.info/en/
The installers are in the format .DMG and and I don't need to teach you how to install a DMG package. Once installed both have control panels that control the services provided namely, Apache web server and MYSQL server. When running on your machine these will be running locally on your Mac, which is great for testing and leaning. When you are ready you can move these databases to a hosted service, Heart Internet and FastHosts are just two providers of domain hosting including MySQL.
I will be available via this site for any help you need regarding MySQL.
