Salisbury — Oct 29th 2014
Our first session was how to copy film based slides and home movies without a slide or film copier, what you will need is a digital camera that can take movies, (you could also use the camera on the iPhone, iPad or iPod), a slide/movie projectors and screen, a tripod and your slides and your home movies, then uploading the results to the Mac.
If you have taken loads of slides or movies you will already have a projector, screen and tripod.
You can also make some arty photos by showing a slide or movie and then placing a object or a person in front of the screen and then taking a photo or a movie of the results with a warning if it is a person not to look directly into the projector light. We used the projector that we have connected to the MacBook to simulate a slide projector.
Set everything up to show slides or movies, put the camera onto the tripod, (make sure the flash is off) and move the camera so that the viewing LCD panel has focus and is filled with the image, does not have to fill the projector screen.
All you have to do is show each slide in turn and take a photo, the same applies to movies with the camera set to take movies, it may take some time depending on your collection, do them in batches if you have loads of them.
Photos from the screen are reflective light so there will be some loss of quality.
Then upload the photos or movies from the camera to your Mac.
We were then showed a few home movies including a train ride on the RMR (Reg Model Railway), a train driver’s eye view of the track, a stop-motion movie starring “Claris the Crocodile” also a wild life movie of a Hummingbird Hawkmoth.
There was a showing a few of the Mac adverts that are now on YouTube.
John previewed “Mail Steward” that he is going to demonstrate in full at our November meeting
