His purpose is to keep track of his income and expenditure, as well as to monitor his bank and card accounts. He has now been using the system for at least 10 years.
Initially, he makes estimates of expenditure in various categories. He enters the actual amounts each month which he downloads from his bank in CSV form so that he can compare the results.
Peter has to manually assign each item to its relevant category but all the calculations are performed automatically. He explained the workings of some of the formulae that he uses, and he also briefly demonstrated how you could view the results on a pie chart.
At the end of the talk, Peter supplied a website link that could be used to download his spreadsheet template file via a storage web site new to most members (Mediafire).
After the break, several topics were discussed, including:
WiFi connection problems on iPads, predictive text on iPads using the Speak Auto-text function.
Poor legibility on some websites viewed on iPads that can be resolved by colour inversion.
Hardware conflicts using the same assigned IP address from a router.
Phishing emails - from banks, PayPal and Fedex couriers.
