Beaminster — Dec 3rd 2013
Last night's meeting at Beaminster was well attended - 16 people came to hear one of Mick Burrell's lucid and well thought-out presentations. He gave us a run through the method of installing Mavericks, the new, free upgrade to the Mac operating system, including a very handy hint for those of us with more than one machine. This was to make a copy the installer downloaded from the App Store web site before installing it on one computer, to save the prolonged hassle of downloading a second copy since it can take between 45 minutes and two hours to do this depending on your Mac. Mick then went through the new features one by one giving an overview new features added to the OS such as iBooks and Maps and iCloud Keychain, and of changes and improvements to the Finder, Calendar, Notifications and Tags.
The second half of the evening, following a very welcome break for excellent coffee and tea, was a sort of combination question and answer and Special Interest Groups as people got together to discuss problems and have them solved, to learn new things, or just to chat. The whole atmosphere was very, very friendly and helpful and certainly two newcomers went away delighted.
