Bournemouth — Feb 18th 2014

Sixteen members were present for the February meeting, swelled by a welcome group of Dorchester members.

The star of the show was undoubtedly Alex from Solutions, who took us through the Apple TV device from ‘the ground up’. He described connecting it up to the tv and your wi-fi network, how to control it via the remote, the options in Settings and then went on to talk about and demonstrate what it did in a most enjoyable and informative way.

Along the way he showed us the range of music, films and tv series available to rent or buy, discussed iTunes Match for anyone with music they wanted to store in the Cloud, told us how we could use the ‘Remote’ app. on an iPhone or Pad to type letters and numbers instead of using the rather cumbersome remote control device, and talked us through Apple Airplay. Airplay has tremendous uses especially ‘mirroring’ what is on your iMac, MacBook or iPad’s screen.

Throughout there was a steady flow of questions indicating how much interest there was from the audience.  In fact Alec’s presentation lasted the duration of the whole meeting and there was no time for a Q and A session, which was probably just as well as the Chairman was beginning to lose control by this stage, particularly when his extended display appeared from the opposite direction to what he had expected! - DF

An interesting, even 'lively' evening which was helpful to me since I was about to 'eBay' my Apple TV. Thanks to Alex for rescuing it and explaining how it can be controlled from an iPad. Now if only I could remember my password!
