Alan Cox welcomed everybody who had made it to the meeting through the traffic gridlock that evening. There were 17 present. He then introduced Ben Cahill, the new Assistant Manager at Solutions, and Dean who repairs Apple kit at Solutions as a fully trained and accredited Apple technician.

Dean gave an interesting presentation on all the seemingly myriad cables that have been and are used to connect our various devices - although he tempered this with the view that the future is wireless not cables. Cables ranged from the snail-like speed of the original USB1 cables,12Mbps, to the latest Thunderbolt cables at 10Gbps. He ran through the variations of ports we might come across and we all found something of interest in his presentation and there were many questions which he fielded with aplomb.

Ben then spoke on what we can expect to see when OS Mavericks is launched. The launch date announcement may be made next week. A lot of the features are transferring from iOS including iBooks and Maps but there are some new features including Tags and the return of some old features particularly dual screens.

After a short break Ben continued with a run though of iOS 7 largely as it works on the iPad. He pointed out a number of the new features in this operating system, and how to access and make the most of them. There were plenty of members avidly following his instructions on their own iPads. He demonstrated many of the new 'tricks' which had not been fathomed by members. All in all, a very useful session during which it became apparent that not everyone had fallen in love with this new OS.

As always, an enjoyable meeting. Following Euans very detailed map, Joy and myself tried the free parking available in Dean Park Road. We used the footpath across the centre of Horseshoe common, it's fairly well lit and took under fifteen minutes for a relaxed walk to Solutions. Weather permitting, we will definitely use the parking again, and for completeness, will try the different routes identified by Euan.

Or you could try "parking roulette". I paid at the machine and then found the barrier was up!

On the 2 occasions I have visited Solutions and parked in the Richmond Gardens car park, (which than makes a very short walk to Solutions), I have not had to pay for parking because one exit barrier was up. The first time it was about 9:30pm, the second time it was just after 9:00pm when I reached the exit. The best thing to do is to drive to the exit without paying and if the barrier is not up, there is a pay machine on that level. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!
