Bournemouth — Mar 20th 2012
We started the meeting with the usual Q&A session which produced a helpful discussion on the partitioning of external drives, Time Machine back-up and aspects of emailing. Ben of Solutions then took us through the process of producing photo books, cards and calendars using iPhoto software. Various designs were shown and photos dragged and dropped in the selected templates to take us to the ordering stage. A short video showed the Letterpress process being used in the production of high quality cards. Some members had brought examples of books which they had produced and these together with samples from Solutions were viewed with interest over the break for refreshments.
Michael then showed an alternative way of producing books from Blurb (http://www.blurb.com/). The (free to download) software demonstrated was Blurb BookSmart and Michael gave us a step by step guide on how to create a book with layouts, photos and text. After reaching the final stage of uploading the finished book for printing Michael took questions and comments from members. It was pointed out that an alternative approach is to use Blurb Bookify to design photo albums online with easy-to-use templates. For professional users Blurb offer a plug-in for Adobe InDesign software that generates blank templates to make a PDF book. Alternatively Blurb offer specifications to create PDFs using other layout software. A member commented that Adobe have enabled Blurb books to be designed in Lightroom 4 as another option to producing a photo book.
