Dorchester — Jun 12th 2012
Euan had viewed the WDDC highlights, from Apple, and gave a brief rundown of the headlines, these being the new iBooks, Mountain Lion, and iOS6.
The main part of the evening was an Animation workshop, led by Andy. This started by his introduction, in which he explained that he was not a film maker, or an animation expert, but that he had run animation workshops for different organisations, but specialised in using creativity to communicate information. He started by demonstrating the results of using a number of simple animation routines, Styx, xtranormal, morphx and blabberize, and then continued to explain the use of iStop Motion, a programme which we had been invited to download onto our laptops, under a free 5 day license. The remainder of the workshop was taken up as members used this programme to devise short animated movies, using simple props, including spectacles, plastic, and each other! Much fun was had by all.

Since the meeting Andy has tried out the £7 app on an iPad and this is his first impression:
I thought it rather good - you do not need to adjust for left and right as I had to on each project [using the Mac version], you can adjust and lock the focus and exposure of your camera and you can delte or copy individual frames.
It loops automatically.
No you cannot copy and paste and reverse frames and you can adjust speed but you can in any editing package and you have to edit later anyway - I do the trick for live demos
So top marks for iPad iStop Motion
Examples of in use by Andy & others can be seen on his website
