The start of the evenings' programme was not auspicious – the presentation on iChat and Skype that Michael had given the previous week at Dorchester had to arrive on a memory stick, as his laptop was away having the hard drive replaced. However as the presentation was made in Keynote '09 it couldn't run on the '08 version in Lionel's MacBook, nor would the '09 copy of Keynote that Michael had thought to put on the memory stick run on any other Mac than his. Fortunately Lionel had come prepared and was able to go through his illuminating and helpful presentation on off-site storage, detailing the benefits and drawbacks of storing on the cloud (the time that it takes to upload at the present prevents any meaningful storage of large masses of information) and from which it could be concluded that a spare external hard drive given to a neighbour or friend and regularly backed up would be a good option!
During the break there was lively conversation between the 11 people present, and one very happy member was shown how to put his business presentations, made in Final Cut Pro, onto his iPad (via iTunes)thus saving him having to take his MacBook on business journbeys in the future.
After the break Gordon Clyne enabled Michael to run the iChat presentation on his MacBook Pro and was further able to fill in the many gaps, regarding Skype especially, to show that, while not so intuitive to use as a Mac program, it remains quite versatile and useful.
All in all, a very good meeting.
