Dorchester — Jan 11th 2011
The meeting started with a QA session with subjects ranging from connecting your computer to your TV via USB dongles Ethernet connectors etc. Other subjects touched upon was Keychain access, the inner workings of the mighty mouse and copying to email from iPhoto .
Next was an excellent presentation by Mike Burrell entitled A Beginners Guide To Printing Labels From Address Book. Being Mike it was so much more, and dealt with printing envelopes configuring the program to print on non standard labels and envelopes. Also very useful for next year how to make a Christmas card list.. I’m sure we will all be receiving a Christmas card from Mike next year.
20.30 was our customary break for refreshments
We returned to a demonstration by Mark Ford on widgets and the app store. First the good news: apps like Aperture cost £169.00 to buy in physical form but to download costs only £ 44-99 - a significant saving. Individual Apps from iLife and iWork can also be purchased at a saving form the apps store. Now the bad news: only people with Snow Leopard can access the store. Mark went on to demonstrate how to download and arrange widgets. Also he showed the variety and amount of different widgets available by filling up the hard drive of a borrowed computer
Finally it was demonstrated by Michael Corgon how little we knew about Apple and Apple products in the form of a quiz. The winner was (who else) Euan who will now have a very clean computer.
The meeting closed at 22.00 with the delightful prospect of a talk next month on setting up and using iChat.

Since discussing the delightful prospect I realise that our wifi access at the Colliton Club is restricted in such a way that we are unable to use iChat - we will explore the possibility of employing dongles! MF
