Lytchett Matravers — Sep 2nd 2007

A minor change to the format this time saw me presenting a 'tip of the month' - something I'd only just discovered on a Mac despite using them for more than four years! As expected, some attendees knew it already but there were a couple of cries of 'I didn't know it could do that though' from the back! If you've just discovered something you didn't know, we'd be pleased to hear it - I don't as yet have a long list of volunteers!

Lionel gave us a good demo of how Front Row (now included with all new Macs) can be used to good effect to present 'shows' from the material in iTunes, iDVD etc. We saw various movie trailers and video podcasts which demonstrated the capabilities admirably.

The session then broke up into the usual question and answer or general help session. It was a much more lively affair than usual with more than the normal level of banter and humour - but maybe this was because little of the discussion was about Macs! Well, except for the point when our chairman proudly thrust his laptop into the area and shouted Ubunto! Apparently it's not an expletive in Swahili but a version of Linux. Not for the feint hearted it seems.

This was our first meeting since the change to subscription, so Lionel was kept busy taking cheques and, as we have internet access there, actually getting people to log on here to join.

I just like to add, the turn-out was very poor only 6 people of which 4 were committee members! Worst turn-out at Crumpets Farm. I wonder if we've scared off members with the new subscription, or too many other meetings available nearby?

All meetings suffer at times from low attendance, but at other times we are overcrowded! I've yet to work out, and probably never will, the sociology of public gatherings and the random patterns that occur!

The Crumpeteers will return with the Autumn. The low attendance was almost certainly a combination of coincidences. Doctors orders are keeping me away from gatherings for one, no sleight intended.
