Passwords aren't terribly secure and have various other pitfalls, so Apple, Microsoft, Google and others are backing passkeys as their replacement. They're potentially both more secure and easier to use for logging into apps and websites. It's a very interesting technology, though as Mick demonstrated, not without its own drawbacks. Mick introduced us to PassKeys explaining the secure technology behind how they operate using un-hackable public and private keys with no password i.e. very secure without the hassle of remembering and recording passwords. There were very few of us this month as several of our regulars couldn't make it. However, we went ahead with the planned programme - David showed us lots of devices around his home that he controls using the Home App. Some of these are controlled manually by switching on or off with the app whilst others can be give a schedule like dawn to dusk or specific hours..
